The Bartali Youth Leadership School and Bartali Youth in Movement

The Gino Bartley Youth Leadership Academy, which began in 2019, is the only multi-year program of its kind in Israel for young cyclists is located at the Ben-Shemen Youth Village. The program is intended for youth aged 14-18 from all over Israel and from all corners of Israeli society.

The students who are accepted to the program, move to the Ben Shemen Youth Village, where they study, ride and live together in boarding school conditions, take part in a unique annual program that combines intensive riding training, challenging trips, participation in competitions and training for cycling and experience in leadership and leadership skills.

Through the use of methods of experiential learning, the girls and boys in the project acquire meaningful tools and values such as multiculturalism, mutual respect, ability and dealing with significant challenges. The academy cultivates ideas of giving to society and creating change as a way of life. All members of the academy undergo professional training in the field of cycling instruction and bicycle mechanics.

Who is the program suitable for?
  • Girls and boys who will be attending 9th-11th grade

  • Have a passion for riding, challenges and a willingness to put in the effort

  • Have experience in off-road riding, team training or competitions.

  • Interested in being accepted into a unique multi-year program that includes the development of social leadership alongside sporting excellence in a multicultural environment

  • Willing to deal with living in boarding school conditions that require self-management ability, discipline and high motivation.

 

Acceptance Process to the Leadership School

Stage One - applying
The registration process should be started using the online form below. Girls and boys who meet the threshold conditions will receive a preliminary screening questionnaire in a return email and will continue the process through it.
Stage Two - open day and interviews

Applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited with their parents to an open day at the Ben Shemen Youth Village. During the open day, there will be a personal meeting of the candidate and parents with the faculty of the academy and an introduction to the framework of the Ben Shemen Youth Village. Please note: Currently the process is done through online meetings.

Stage Three - screening camp 

Registrants who participated in the open day and passed the first stage will be invited to a two-day screening camp, which will take place in the area of the Ben-Shemen Youth Village.

Fourth Stage - tests and admission 

Candidates who successfully pass the screening camp will be invited to an exam day and an admission interview at the Ben-Shemen Youth Village. The day of admission will include a personal interview, assessment by the treatment unit, passing entrance tests in Hebrew, mathematics and English, checking previous grades and behavioral notes.

The number of places in the Academy is limited. The program will accept girls and boys who have successfully passed all the screening stages. The cost of participating in the program is subsidized and varies from student to student. The cost is determined according to the criteria of the Rural Education Administration, taking into account the socio-economic background of each of the candidates. If necessary, an annual scholarship are available.

Participation in screenings and on the day of admission to the youth village does not require joining the program: each of the candidates can decide at any stage to waive his/her participation in the academy program, even if accepted.
